The CPD is organized in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and is an introductory lecture addressed to law practitioners of up to 5 years of call.

Resource Persons:  Mr Dzedhaan Bhatoo, Principal State Counsel, and Mr Krishan Beeharry, State Counsel, from the ODPP.

Bio Profile:

Mr Dzedhaan Bhatoo has been called to the Bar since January 2008. He has been in private practice, by himself, at the Chambers of late Me R Stephen, and Chambers of Mr and Mrs Jaddoo, before joining the State Law Office. He is now Principal State Counsel, having joined since 2011. He was a member of the Cybercrime Unit at the ODPP. He is now assigned to the Maritime and Human Trafficking Unit, ODPP. He has followed trainings, seminars, and workshops of SOPs and NAPs on the ever-growing subject of Trafficking in Persons, and has also delivered talks on the issue.

Mr Krishan Beeharry is a Barrister since 2016, and has been in private practice at Madun Gujadhur Chambers. Subsequently Mr Beeharry joined the ICAC as legal adviser, until 2021, when he joined the State Law Office, at the ODPP, where he is currently posted as State Counsel. Since joining the ODPP, Mr Beeharry has been assigned to the Maritime and Trafficking in Persons Unit, and has participated in trainings and workshops in that Unit. He has also participated in organizing the World Day against TIP in July 2023.

Synopsis:

With a view to raise awareness, the talk will be about the Combatting Trafficking in Persons Act, known cases around the world, concepts revolving around the Human Trafficking business worldwide, and some modern-day challenges and responses to those challenges.
