Happy Children’s Day!

To commemorate Children’s Day, the IJLS is organising a half-day "Panel Discussion on Child Sexual Abuse in Mauritius: seen from a psycho-socio-legal perspective"  on 28th November 2017 from 11.00 hrs to 16.00 hrs. The focus of the panel discussion will be on the practical aspect of child sexual abuse , with lawyers from both the prosecution and defence coming together to discuss challenges faced in Court when dealing with child victims of sexual abuse, amongst others.

Moreover, representatives from the Child Development Unit and  the Ombudsperson for Children will also share their practical experiences in dealing with children who are victims of child sexual abuse and their parents.
 
Finally, Dr Thakore, Senior Psychiatrist specialising in child sexual abuse from Ireland will address the audience on the psychological aspects of Child Sexual Abuse and Dr Poonam Bissessur, Psychiatrist and Director of Pedostop, an NGO working exclusively on the issue of child sexual abuse in Mauritius, will be highlighting not only the trauma of child victims but also the consequences in adults in later life who have been victims of sexual abuse during their childhood.

Five CPD hours will be awarded.
